“The academic research ... is still benefiting the way the energy standards within the Code for Sustainable Homes are negotiated and implemented here at Brighton & Hove.”
A certified Passive House Designer is a qualified consultant who can design and assess a building to achieve the internationally-recognised low-energy Passive House standard. The standard was founded in Germany, where it is known as Passivhaus, and is promoted and certified by the Passivhaus Institute.
Passive House is a voluntary standard which ensures a comfortable indoor temperature in summer and winter without needing a conventional heating system. To permit this, it is essential that the building’s annual demand for space heating does not exceed 15kWh per m2 per year. This is equivalent to a 75% reduction in space heating requirement compared to standard UK practice. There are over 20,000 Passive House buildings in Europe.
Hawton Mead is certified as a passive house designer/consultancy. We assess homes to this rigorous standard and we deliver Continuous Professional Development (CPD) training on Passive House design.
