”... a feeling for the process being an interactive one, involving the changes going on in the people as well as the house ... able to work patiently with people who have little experience of carrying out major changes to a house, who do not really know what the process is going to be like.”
A certified Passive House Designer is a qualified consultant who can design and assess a building to achieve the internationally-recognised low-energy Passive House standard. The standard was founded in Germany, where it is known as Passivhaus, and is promoted and certified by the Passivhaus Institute.
Passive House is a voluntary standard which ensures a comfortable indoor temperature in summer and winter without needing a conventional heating system. To permit this, it is essential that the building’s annual demand for space heating does not exceed 15kWh per m2 per year. This is equivalent to a 75% reduction in space heating requirement compared to standard UK practice. There are over 20,000 Passive House buildings in Europe.
Hawton Mead is certified as a passive house designer/consultancy. We assess homes to this rigorous standard and we deliver Continuous Professional Development (CPD) training on Passive House design.
